homer city, PA on the drive-by: +/-
+ Apparent love of baseball (I saw two fields, just from 119).
+ Nice trails for walking/running/biking.
+ Bar called “Inn Solidarity.”
+ Big Sheetz.
+ Near tallest smoke stack in the country. *
- Immense pollution coming from said smoke stacks.
- Proximity to IUP.
* Despite its similarity in appearance to the plant where Homer Simpson works (and the name that would imply some sort of correlation), this place apparently is all about the coal, and is not nuclear. This brings to mind the fact that I have no clue how to distinguish one type of power plant from another from afar. And I’m not going inside to figure it out, so thank goodness for Wikipedia. Also, speaking of Wikipedia, I particularly enjoy the note that “on a clear day,” you can see the tall stack from Greensburg. I think one can assume that at the second dirtiest generating plant in the state, clear days are few and far between.
