There are some really great photos posted on the newest site to catch my eye recently, Square America. They bill their site as “a gallery of vintage snapshots and vernacular photography”. There’s a really cool link where the previously showcased picture above appears called “The Party” (one image is NSFW) which documents what appears to be a swinger’s party in 1970 or so. Looks like a bacchanal of epic/stoned proportions. So they’re probably having a lot of fun.

The portraiture is visually striking and runs the gamut of photo technology over the years. It ranges from what look to be late 19th-century B&W to 70’s era color photos, and even the most pedestrian snapshot takes on ethereal quality as they document a brief moment of a history we’ll never know. Highly recommended. Probably some great flyer art materials to mine as well, so get your X-Acto Knives ready.

Especially this ten (!) page section of Americans posing lovingly with all manner of firearms.

Old photographs have always fascinated me, especially ones where no one knows who the people are anymore. There something poetic about them…
