One, two, two cats! AH AH AH!

Ooooh, flashy.
Friend recently acquired a Canon Speedlite 420EZ - knowing I am something of a photographer, he passed it my way.
It mounts on my Canon Digital Rebel XT. I’ve only tried it out in manual mode (the internet leads me to believe this is the only way it works). Here are three sample photos:
First, we have a “still life”:

Second, a photo of Gideon (is he, or is he not a good looking cat?):

And, finally, of a houseguest:

My part-time job
I work occasionally as a second shooter for my good friend Melissa Rudick Photography (Melissa is my friend, not her business, but the specifics of linking elude me).
Below are two of my favorites from the most recent wedding we shot:

Down By Okkervil River…
Last night I attended the Okkervil River show at Mr. Small’s.
I thought I would write something about it, but all I can think about are the people who were near me who weredancing like mad, but who would not take their eyes off the stage. It was surreal - they managed to flail with what seemed like reckless abandon, yet their eyes never blinked and their heads never moved.
Where have you been?
I’ve moved.
I’ve been listening to a lot of the Hold Steady and Okkervil River.
I’ve been reading some books called Word Freak, The High Window, loneliness: Human Nature and the Need for Social Connection, and Maps and Legends.
I’ve been too lazy to look for links.
I’ve started library school again - wonder how long it will last this time?
I’ve been given new work responsibilities.
I’ve been beating back anxiety with all the subtlety of the woman who smashes Kanye West’s face in with a shovel in that one music video for a song that may or may not be called “Flashing Lights”.
I’ve been playing Bionic Commando: Rearmed and Geometry Wars 2 and Soul Calibur IV and Rock Band.
I’ve also been playing Scrabble and guitar and piano.
Does anyone want an old film enlarger? It probably works. It looks pretty cool, but it’s just sitting in pieces in the corner of the dining room and I don’t want it there any more.
Georgia on my mind…
I struggled for a while to write an intro for the following screen capture of a CNN.com page. I tried to be witty, I tried to be scholarly; in the end, I figured it best to just let the juxtaposition of the main story and the developing story be their own comment.
