So it’s been a while, right? I mean, I barely started this thing and then I dropped the ball for months. I know you feel like you can’t trust me any more. I’ll get your hopes up and let you down again. Well, hopefully not this time…
Since that last post (from early June…ugh), I’ve moved, I’ve played a few shows with the new band and the old band broke up. I’m still playing D&D, still watching horror movies, still DJing, still listening to metal, and still drinking beer. I’ll try to give a somewhat interesting overview of that here. Hopefully my next posts will be a bit less disjointed. I’ll try to stick to a topic or two per post.
New House
I’ve moved back to Bloomfield. The new place is right around the corner from where I used to live on Atlantic. So far, so good. I have a bunch of roommates again for the first time in a long time. They’re all pretty cool and mostly not around. It’s been fun having people to watch movies with again.
Old Bands…New Bands…
Warzone Womyn did our last show with Breakfast, Conquest for Death and Conversions on July 28, 2007. Unfortunately, none of us were really feeling it any more. We were having a hard time coming up with new material. It felt like we were going through the motions. It was time. And it made for a great last show. We weren’t sick of each other, but we were sick of the songs. So we banged them out like they were never banged out before. It was a great way to go out.
I had started playing with the new band last winter. Abysme is definitely my most “metal” band yet and we’re having a lot of fun with it. We got a few shows out of the way and there will be more soon.
Horror Movies
I went to Cinema Wasteland again. I drank a ton of whiskey, bought some movies, watched a couple movies and hung out with some cool folks. I’m really looking forward to the spring show with Dyanne Thorne aka (Isla She Wolf of the SS) and Giovanni Lombardo Radice (Cannibal Apocalypse, Cannibal Ferox, City of the Living Dead, and House on the Edge of the Park).
I re-watched Halloween 3 recently. It was better than I remembered. Sure, it’s missing Michael Myers, but the concept is really weird. Why would a novelty company want to kill all of their clientèle? Seriously….Silver Shamrock, yer gonna put yerself outta business.
I’d also like to put a plug in for Rock n Roll Nightmare, featuring THOR, and Black Roses, with Carmine Appice. Both are “Heavy Metal Horror Movies” directed by John Fasano. They’re pretty corny, but manage to stay entertaining throughout. The special effects are extremely low budget, but they do some cool masks and puppets. Neither will change your life, but both are definitely worth watching.
This week is our second annual Metal Night Halloween party. The upstairs bar will be decorated for the party. We’ll be playing some horror DVDs on the TVs. I’ll probably spin some extra Hallow’s Eve, Helloween, and King Diamond to get everyone in the holiday spirit. Hopefully some people will wear costumes.
Beer Recommendations
Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales from Dexter, Michigan does some really gnarley Belgian Style sour ales. Everything is aged in old wine barrels and blended. I’ve had five or six of their beers and their all great. I’ve seen La Roja at D’s and the Sharp Edge. Check it out.
